POKER SCHOOL - HOW TO WIN AT ONLINE POKER

Welcome to PokerProNews' online pokerschool.

Right now, tens of thousands of people are playing Texas hold’em through the magic of the Internet, and if you’ve sampled the world’s hottest game you’ll know why.

PokerTexas Hold 'em is the most compelling and exhilarating game on the World. It’s as intellectual as chess and as visceral as manhandling a snake, and comes with the added bonus of huge cash rewards if you play it right.

Remember, this isn’t blackjack. Whatever anyone tells you, poker is a game of skill, how else could the best players in the world keep winning
year-in, year-out?

Texas Holdem – Introduction & Rules

In Texas Holdem, players are dealt two down - cards that only they can see and use.

After everyone receives these cards, there is a round of betting known as preflop betting.

Players are betting on the quality of their two down-cards.

The game is split into four rounds of betting, and the game moves clockwise around the table.

Betting starts from the player position next to the dealer button, which moves one place to the left after each hand. In online games, the dealer button replaces the 'real' dealer.

Three ‘community’ cards are dealt in the middle of the table that everyone can see and use with their hand. This is known as the Flop Players can make their five-card hand from both, one or none of their hole cards in combination with the community cards.

For example: if I had Ace + Jack down and my friend had Ace + Queen down, and the board is Ace + Jack + 2, I had two pairs (Ace+Jack) and my fiend had one pair of Aces.

After the flop betting, a fourth community card is dealt. This is known as the turn. There is another round of betting. After this, the final community card is dealt: the river card. After this card is dealt, there is a final round of betting.

Each player has two personal cards and five cards are shared with the other players. When a player makes his best hand, he does so with any of the 7 cards. It is possible to use one, two, or none of your own cards to make your hand (if you use none of your own cards, that means you are using only community cards and you can only hope for a tie).
